An event every week that begins at 10:30am on Saturday, happening 12 times
This 12-week course will help you be a more successful gardener and meet the challenges of gardening in our unique coastal environment. Classes will be every Saturday from 10:30 – 12:00 beginning February 20th. The instructor is Sakina Bush, a local garden educator and owner of Sakina’s Garden nursery and market garden. Sakina has teaching credentials in Vocational Horticulture and Biology and has taught food production on the coast since 2007.
The first class will introduce the basic principles of organic gardening, a seasonal planting calendar, and discuss seed selection and propagation. Future classes will address soil and fertility, composting, weed and pest management, water conservation, season extension, and a brief introduction to permaculture. Opportunities for hands on gardening in local community gardens will be included. Students will also enjoy several special guest instructors and field trips to local vegetable gardens and farms.
The series is underwritten by the LeCompte Family Charitable Trust. The cost is $3.00 per class for materials. Drop-ins are welcome, but reservations are encouraged. Call the Center at 707 937-4133 to reserve a spot. For more info on the class, you may contact the instructor at 707 964-9232.
